FINTRAC's Contribution Recognized
FINTRAC’s financial intelligence was recognized by the RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador in Project Broken. The extensive investigation that began in May 2017, has led to guilty pleas by individuals involved in an organized crime group in relation to Conspiracy to Traffic Cocaine, Possession of the Proceeds of Crime, Money Laundering, and other offences, as well as to the largest single seizure of illicit cash by police in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador.
With the financial transaction reports received from Canadian businesses across the country, FINTRAC is providing valuable assistance to law enforcement and national security investigations.
